Meet Mitchell!

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Mitchell received his BA from UCSB, and his MFA in Lighting Design from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. He dearly misses Santa Barbara’s beaches, though he’s very happy to be back home in the Bay after three chilly years in Pittsburgh, PA!

Mitchell is currently the resident Lighting Design Associate at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where he serves as an ALD to their visiting designers on all mainstage productions, and coordinates logistics for their Lighting Design department. He deeply enjoys being a part of such a beloved local institution, and helping to produce the exciting and cutting edge work that A.C.T. is known for.

As a designer, his works for dance, theater, and installation harness the emotional qualities of color and carefully sculpted shadows to create nuanced, impactful, and storytelling designs. Mitchell equally enjoys exploring subtle gradations in tones or angles of white light, and the bold impact of a carefully chosen color statement. He is particularly fond of developing new works, and pieces that give a platform to underrepresented voices and stories.

As an assistant/associate designer and programmer, Mitchell prides himself on blending his “hired friend” mentality with his skills in organization, logistics, and open communication. He seeks to create an efficient but caring tech process, with his paperwork and showfiles being built with the highest standard of care, accuracy, and detail.

Mitchell was selected as a recipient of the 2020 ETC Fred Foster Student Mentorship, an incredible program that pairs up-and-coming lighting designers with world-class LD’s in a year-long training and mentorship. He was honored to also be a featured designer in Design Showcase West’s 2021 designer gallery.

Mitchell is available for design, assistant/associate design, Eos programming, and electrics positions across the United States, in IATSE Local 16, and abroad.
